Water a bit below average for this time of year, clear, 58 degrees.

River Report -- Sept 13 The drastic weather change didn't affect the river smallies. We boated around 20 during a four-hour half-day morning outing. And lost at least 10 others. Clients experienced two separate doubles. Most of the fish in the 12 to 14 inch range. A half dozen 15 to 17.5 inches. Really on Winco Solild Body River Darters today, in bubblegum. Water just a tad of color from yesterday's all day rain (i.e. not quite as clear as it's been) and 10 degrees cooler (69 degrees from 79 degrees).

River Report -- Another good day summer-tactics day. We boated 43 smallies and lost 12 to 15 others during a day that was shortened an hour due to impending thunderstorms. A wide mix of sizes, from a couple tiny fingerling-sized bass from this year's hatch, to a half dozen in the 16 to 18 inch range. Most of them 10 to 13 inches. A few on X-Raps, but mostly Zoom Flukes. Water temp 78 to 80 degrees, low and clear.

Fishing update -- Clarion River A friend and I did a trip on the Clarion River today. We boated several nice smallies. It was the second trip in my new fishing kakak, the Frontier 12 by NuCanoe. This craft is allowing me to access smaller waters like the Clarion. My intention is to scout out select waters the remainder of the year, and perhaps offer trips on them next year. Look for more updates on these fishing excursions, and the NuCanoe, on this site.

River Report -- Aug 9 A good day on the river. We boated around 30 smallies. No giants today, but several fish in the 14 to 15 inch range. As has been the case for a couple weeks, the action was good early, slacked off during mid morning and early afternoon, then picked up again toward mid afternoon. Flukes and Winco River Darters accounted for the majority of the fish. Several also on Rapala X-Raps. Other baits that produced fish included a jig-worm combo, Galida Grubz and Cordell Big O crankbait. Water low, clear and 74 -76 degrees.

River Report -- August 4 A good day on the Allegheny. During the first hour or so the smallies were quite active. We quickly boated a dozen. Things slowed once the sun hit the water. Still, by the end of the day we'd boated/near boated around 30 bass and one walleye. Several good-sized smallies up to 19 inches. A lot of small to medium sized bass as well. Most of today's fish on Winco's River Darter and Zoom Fluke. Water low, clear and 79 degrees.

River Update -- With the river clearing and finally back to summer-like levels I ran multiple trips last week. The numbers of fish are going up; fewer percentage of bigger bass. Half-day trips are averaging 15 or so bass; full day trips 30 to 40. Lots of small to medium (nine to 13 inch bass in the mix), but still catching ones in the 14 to 18 inch range. X-Raps are producing, as are Winco's 4.75 inch Solid Body River Darter. Higher percentage of bigger bass on River Darter, though some have come on the X-Rap, especially early in the morning. River clear and warm (80 - 82 degrees).

River Report -- July 24 Another pretty fair day on the river. We boated 28 smallies and one northern pike. Biggest bass 19 inches. Quite a few smaller to medium sized bass in the mix, which I'd expect as the water continues to clear. Action was fast for the first couple hours, but slowed by mid morning under another cloudless sunny day. Rapala X-Raps took most of the fish. Some also on tubes fished on Winco Flutter head jigs and Winco River Darters. Water temp 73 degrees by late afternoon, clearing and dropping.

River Report -- July 23 Today started off fast for the first hour or so, then slowed for a few hours. The last hour provided another good spree. We ended up boating 35 smallies up to 17 inches, and one 20 inch walleye. Tubes fished on Winco Flutter Heads took many fish, as did leadhead jigs dressed with a section of Yum Dingers. X-Raps also took a fair number of fish. Water level about two feet above summer average, 71 degrees, and still quite dirty. Clarity should improve over next couple of days with no rain in forecast.

River Report -- High, dirty water persists on the middle Allegheny. Water clarity slightly improved from last trip. During a half-day AM trip we caught 10 smallmouth bass and one northern pike. Several of the bass in the 15 to 18 inch range. Tubes -- including Winco tubes rigged on Darter jighead -- took most of the fish. One nice smallie on Winco spinnerbait. Water temp 72 degrees, dirty, and about 3 feet above summer average.
