River Report -- July 16 A good morning bite. Things slowed down by late morning as the heat set in and the river became busy with boaters and other anglers. Everything on River Darters/Super Flukes and X-Raps. Smallies to 17 inches. Also got three walleyes, up to 21 inches.

River Update -- July 15 A pm trip early this week produced a nice bunch of smallies up to 16 inches, despite a smokin' hot afternoon/evening with bright skies. During today's full day trip we had fast action for the first three hours. Then a mid/late morning lull. Things picked up during the afternoon. No big fish, but a lot of hard-fighting smallies in the 12 to 14 inch range. And a nice 22 inch walleye. Effective baits included Winco's River Darter, X-Raps, Super Flukes, Speed Shad swimbaits, and ZMan ShadZ. Water low, clear and very warm -- 81 degrees.

River Report -- July 11 Tougher fishing today. We started the day on Kahle. Picked up about a dozen largemouth in approx 2 hours. Moved to the Allegheny. 15 to 20 hookups. Mostly on the small side, though we did get two 18 inchers and a 16 incher. Most of the fish on X-Raps. Water level down about 6 inches from yesterday, still stained by clearing. 79 degrees.

River Report -- July 6 Another excellent day on the middle Allegheny. 45 to 50 hookups on smallies plus a 20 inch walleye. Bass up to 19 inches, along with several others in the 15 to 17 inch range. Winco's SB River Darter was the hot bait today, along with quite a few on the XRap. Water low, very clear and very warm.

River Report -- July 5 Back at 'em after the holiday break. Another good day. Numbers down a bit -- we boated around 30 and lost several others -- but average size was up. Biggest was 17 inchers. Lots of 12 to 14 inchers that fight hard in the fast current! Winco's Solid Body River Darters were the most productive bait today, though we got a fair share on XRaps as well. Water low, clear and warm.

River Report -- July 1 Another excellent summer day on the river. 40 to 50 hookups over the course of the day. Lots of smallies -- of all sizes -- up to 19 inches. Two walleyes, the biggest being 22 inches. And a huge freshwater drum that slammed a BPS Speed Shad swimbait. Several bass on the swimbait, but most on X-Raps and Winco River Darters. Water low and clear.

River Report -- June 30 What a difference a couple days of stable weather can do. Three days removed from the last cold front, river smallies were active throughout much of the day. We hooked up with 40 to 45 smallies today. Good action for the first couple hours under a cloak of fog. A couple slow hours mid-morning after the fog burned off. Then a good afternoon as some clouds moved in. Mostly on X-Raps, but some action of Winco River Darters and Bass Pro Shops Speed Shad. Water low and clear.

River Report -- June 28 Post cold front days are certainly pleasant from a comfort standpoint. But they can lead to slow fishing. Can't say for sure today's finicky smallies were due to weather change, but things were slow. Still, we managed to hookup with 15 to 20 smallies, all on Winco River Darters and XRaps.

River Report -- During trips earlier this week Allegheny River smallmouths were still pretty finicky. We caught fish, but had to work a bit harder than normal to fool summertime bass. During this evening's four-hour evening trip, however, summer patterns finally fell into place. During the 5 pm to 9 pm outing we hooked well over 20 smallies. Most in the 12 inch range, typical for summer fishing in super clear water. But a few up to 15 inches. Rapala X-Raps, Winco River Darters, Zoom Flukes and Bass Pro Speed Shad swimbaits. Water low and clear.

River Report -- June 20 My friend Deron and I fished the President to Oil City stretch of the river today. Nice conditions. Visibility up to around two feet, slightly cloudy skies, light southern winds. We boated over 20 smallies up to 16 inches. Mostly on Rapala X-Raps, but a few on Winco's River Darters. Presently I don't plan to guide on this section of the river on a regular basis, but it's good to be familiar with upriver areas. Will provide an option when heavy rains blow out areas to the south.

River Report -- June 18 Tough conditions today: muddy river and bright, cloudless sky most of the day. First couple hours were good, with several smallies hitting the boat. Things slowed down dramatically around mid-morning. Smallmouth up to 16 inches as well as a 25 inch walleye. Everything on Terminator spinnerbaits. Water level still up about a foot from Thursday night's rain, and dirty.

Fishing Report -- June 14 A Kahle/Allegheny split trip. Decent morning on Kahle, especially for the first couple of hours. Around 20 lmb up to 16 inches. Mostly on X-Raps, but a few on Winco's River Darter and Wacky Worm. Slow afternoon on the river. Around a half-dozen smallies under the bright, cloudless sky. All on X-Raps. River getting low and very clear.

River Report -- June 12 A decent day considering the post-front conditions that brought cloudless skies and a strong, persistent north wind. We boated 24 smallies and lost several others. X-Raps and Winco River Darters. Water getting quite clear. Most of the bass close to fast current areas.

Fishing Report -- A Kahle/Allegheny split trip today. First couple hours A.M hours on Kahle were fast paced. We boated 35 to 40 largemouth bass by the time we headed for the river. Mostly smaller bass, but a few in the 14 to 16 inch range. Winco River Darters. Action slower on the Allegheny, but we managed 15 or so smallies during the second part of the trip, including three in the 17 to 19 inch range. A few on Winco River Darters, but most of them on Rapala X-Raps. Flows about average for this time of year, with a bit of color.

River Report -- June 5 Smallmouth action slowly picking up following the spawning period. We boated 20 smallies today and lost/missed a few others. Most of the fish in the 12 to 14 inch range, but a couple bigger ones, including a 19 incher. The majority of bass in summer locations, and on Rapala X-Raps.

River Report -- June 3 Another scouting trip in the Kennerdell area provided a couple nice walleyes along with several smallies. Guide trips resume in a couple days. Rapala X-Raps and Winco River Darters.

River Report -- May 28 Most of the action the past two days has been in and around shallow spawning areas, and has consisted of smaller male bass. Today I fished the area from Kennerdell to Franklin, and plan to run guide trips on this section of the river as soon as the bass get in the normal summer patterns. Water clear, relatively low, and quickly warming due to recent hot weather.

River Report -- A good day on the middle Allegheny. We landed/near landed 20 to 25 smallies during a six-hour trip. Most of the fish in the 12 to 15 inch range. Biggest 17 to 18 inches. All on Winco River Darters. The warmer weather has a second wave of smallies up shallow in spawning areas. Good shallow water action should continue for at least a week or so.

Fishing Update -- Action on the Allegheny remains slow for smallmouth. Given what I've seen during recent trips I'd say the majority of smallmouth bass have completed spawning. Bass can be difficult to catch at this time, and the continued cool weather isn't helping. If we get the warmer weather predicted for next week the action should pick up. During today's outing, shorted somewhat by a steady rain and tight-lipped bass we boated seven bass up to 16 inches and a nice northern pike. Winco River Darters and Winco Wacky Worms.

River Report -- May 17 Smallmouth action still slow, which is somewhat understandable considering the up-and-down weather that included snow showers two days ago. During a four-hour morning trip we boated 7 smallies up to 17 inches and one walleye. Lost/missed a few more. Most of the action on Winco River Darters. Water flow average and clear.
