IMPORTANT NOTICE -- MARCH 28 This evening, via an email from the PFBC, registered guides and charter boat operators were notified of clarification from the Governor's Office that "charter boat and fishing guide operations (whether conducted by boat or on foot) DO NOT meet the definition of a life-sustaining business. Such operations are classified as a recreational industry and continued operation of such businesses is not permitted under the Governor’s Order of March 19, 2020. Operators may be subject to enforcement procedures if found out of compliance with that Order." As such I will be suspending all guide trips until this restriction is lifted. Deposits will be refunded or retained for a future trip, whichever the client prefers. I'll provide updates whenever appropriate. Hoping you all weather this crisis successfully and we will be sharing the water again soon!

River Update -- March 26 Since walleye season closed in mid March we've been chasing river smallies. And with great success. Today we had a great late morning/early afternoon trip with brothers Rich and Kevin, aka "the Billy Boys." They put a couple dozen big smallies up to 19 inches in the boat, and lost several others. Finesse tubes were the most productive baits. Also some on blade baits, suspending jerkbaits and hair jigs.

River Report -- March 13 Very challenging conditions today as regular Evan H and his brother Gary joined me for an afternoon/evening trip. Relentless wind made for tough fishing. Only boated one walleye. Also managed a few smallies. I'm done targeting walleyes as the season ends tomorrow at midnight. But with the rapidly warming water temperatures I expect consistent smallmouth bass action to be soon. Expect updates next week as I scout out some early season smallmouth spots.

River Update -- March 9 Nice afternoon with first time guests father/son John and John K. The bite was slow but they managed some nice 'eyes. Also the first river smallie of the year. I have one opening left before walleye season closes, next Saturday.

River Report -- March 7 Back on the middle Allegheny after a period of high water. First timers Kevin B. and his son RJ traveled over from Johnstown and had a good afternoon. Boated a 38 inch musky and kept a half dozen male walleyes up to 22 inches. Also a few shorts and lost fish. Everything today on jig-n-minnow combos. River's in good shape. Walleye season ends next Saturday. I still have a couple openings.

River Report -- Feb 22 Regular client Scott Johns and his buddy Brian joined me for another afternoon half day trip on the middle Allegheny. We targeted muskies most of the time. Lost one good musky on a muskie-sized swim jig/grub trailer. Also jigged up a couple nice walleyes in the 20-inch range.

River Report -- Feb 17 Great afternoon trip with first timers Bob and Wendell (Greensburg), up with me on the middle Allegheny. Several walleyes from 16 to 24 inches, a nice 24 inch northern and a 38 inch musky. There's less than four weeks left before walleye season closes in mid March. Conditions are good, and we're catching some nice fish. Get in touch if you'd like to get in on the action.

River Report -- February 15 Nice 1/2 day afternoon trip on the middle Allegheny with regular Scott Johns and his buddy Brady. Muskies were the target species today. We boated one around 33 inches, lost one at the boat that appeared to be in the low to mid 40 inch range. Scott and Brady also moved three or four others.

River Update -- Feb 5 While I've been quite lax at posting fishing updates on this page, I have been busy on the river. Starting around late November the walleye bite turned on. On both the free-flowing and lower/impounded Allegheny we've been catching quality-sized walleyes. Quite a few incidental muskies also during that time period. There's about five weeks left before walleye season closes. If you've been considering a wintertime river walleye trip, conditions are good.

River Update -- Nov 2 Prior to the deluge of rain last week the bass and walleyes were really popping. Lots of quality-sized fish. Once the river returns to a reasonable level I expect the bass and walleye bite on the river to be good. We'll also be targeting big smallmouth of Keystone Power Dam.

River Update -- Oct 25. I've been on the river nearly every day for the past week. Bass are transitioning into their fall patterns, but we're still getting some near summer spots. We've taken several citation-size smallies, including one of the year's biggest at 5.25 pounds. Today's action produced smallies up to 18.5 inches, mostly on spinnerbaits.

Keystone Lake -- Oct 18 Great morning on Keystone with several big smallmouth and largemouth boated. The fall bite on Keystone is good, especially for quality sized bass. I'm booked until Tues Oct 29. Openings scattered throughout the schedule after that.

River Report -- Oct 14 Great fall day on the middle Allegheny. Father/son team of Tom and Shawn joined me for a full day outing and caught a slew of quality-sized smallmouth topped off by a 20.5 inch, 4.5 pounder. Soft jerkbaits, jig-worm combos and Galida's Grubz put them in the boat. Water temperature is down to around 58 degrees. This is the start of the late fall smallie bite which will likely last around a month, depending on weather and river conditions. Lots of dates are booked, but lots of opening scattered throughout the schedule. If you'd like to tap into some of the potentially best big smallmouth action of the year get in touch!

River Update -- Oct 13 The big smallies are starting to gather up. Mid to late fall is one of the best times for bubba sized brown bass. Lots of trips booked for the fall, but lots of openings as well. Give me a shout if you'd like to get out.

River Update -- Oct 9 Lots of smallmouth bass have passed over the gunnels of the boat since my last update. The bass action has been good, in general, with low/clear water being the rule during that time. Today's trip saw Mark W. and his buddy Craig travel over from eastern Ohio. The smallies were finicky, perhaps due to the 8-10 degree water temperature drop over the past couple of days. But the two worked hard and put some decent bass in the boat, along with several nice'eyes. The walleye bite should be in full swing in about a month.

River Update -- We've been having great action the past week or so, mostly on Z-Man Fishing soft swimbaits and soft jerkbaits. Bass still in summer patterns. Probably within a month of so they'll start to move into fall locations. Plenty of openings scattered within the schedule.

River Update -- Sept 7 The middle Allegheny has been good the past two weeks. River conditions have ranged from low and clear, to slightly high (for this time of year) and murky. During off-color periods we've done well with spinnerbaits and soft jerkbaits. During clearer periods it's been mostly flukes, soft swimbait, Galida's Grubz and Rapala X-Raps. The water's cooling and we're getting more big smallmouth in the mix. More walleyes too. Lots of openings scattered over the next couple of months, so get in contact if you're interested in getting in on the action.

River Update -- The middle Allegheny has been quite productive during the past week. We're catching plenty of smallmouth bass and a few walleyes. Some days they are in a chasing mood, and we get them on flukes and X-Raps. During others, more of a finesse presentation is required. The bite will only get better as water temperatures continue to drop. I have openings scattered throughout the coming couple of months.

River Update -- Aug 23 I've guiding the majority of the days since the last update. Catching plenty of river smallies, along with some walleyes, on all trips. During the last couple of trips the river has been up a bit with some color, which has translated into more big smallies in the mix. I have a couple openings next week.

River Report -- August 10 First time guest Bill (from Maryland) and his nephew Shawn (Mercer County) joined me for a morning, half-day outing. After a slow first hour the action picked up and they had steady action from river smallies. No bigguns today, but lots of hard fighting 12 to 15 inchers. Most of them on Galida's Grubz. Some on finesse craws.

River Update -- August 9 We've been on the river most days since the last report, getting good numbers of smallmouth bass and walleye. Today regulars Dave and Brian came up from the Pgh area for their annual summer outing and had a great morning on the middle Allegheny. Got 'em on finesse craws and Galida's Grubz. Lots of smallmouth up to 18 inches and a bonus walleye. I'm booked solid next week, with some openings the following week.

River Update 7-24-2019 Despite the continuing trend of slugs of higher, dirty water from thunderstorms we're getting out and are catching smallies along with some nice walleyes. When the water clears they are coming on swimbaits, flukes and Rapala X-Raps. When dirty, mostly on spinnerbaits. I'm booked up through the next two and a half weeks. Open dates starting in mid August.

River Report -- July 12 Great morning on the middle Allegheny. A bunch of smallmouth up to 20 inches plus a couple good walleyes. The river is finally getting into summer shape. My next three weeks are pretty booked. Lots of openings starting around the second week of August. Give me a shout!

River Report -- July 10 Sorry, I've been lagging behind on river reports on this page. We've logged a lot of trips the past month, when river conditions have allowed. Plenty of high, dirty water, but when we can get out we're getting some nice smallies on spinnerbaits and soft swimbaits. Remember to like my Facebook page, where I post fishing updates after all my trips.

River Report -- May 22 Bill R. returned for his second day on the middle Allegheny. Today's bite was finicky...lots of lost and missed fish. But he put in his time and boated a bunch of nice smallmouth and walleyes. Lake Fork swimbaits, finesse tubes and Galida's Grubz put them in the boat.
